Graveyard Gossip - Cabin in the Swamp

"Lucky that" he chuckled

She smiled.

"Not a fan, huh?"

He shook his head with a mock look of disgust. "Not at all."

She smiled.

"I don't blame you. It sometimes makes me tired just thinking about it."

"Gonna live fer eternity, and jest want ta' wag yer dicks at each other, an' stick knives in folk's back. Waste o' unlife if ya ask me."

She smiled.

"For some, it's what keeps them awake."

"Then they ain't go no valid reason ta' be awake." he shrugged

She laughed.

"I wouldn't say that, honestly."

She wandered back in, went to a Chet's feet, and curled up in a limp ball. It was nap time, apparently.

Chet smiled at the sleepy ghoul, and carefully picked her up, while tenderly stroking her face.

"Mebbe ya right" he said to Alexandria. "Lemme put Bethy someplace comfortable and warm first."

She smiled at that, leaning back a little.

"I can scoot if that would make things easier."

"Ya ain't even had yer supper yet" he chuckled "Nah, Bethy, she pushes herself so hard, and then falls asleep in the middle of the night, poor darlin'. I'm gonna put her ta' bed, she might wake up after an hour or so."

He was still gently stroking her hair, and gently kissed the ghoul's forehead before carrying her to their room.

She smiled and nodded. Then she went to waiting, reaching down to gently scritch the tiger behind his ears.

Chet came back a few minutes later and smiled. Just being around Bethy seemed to make him happy.

"How is yer supper comin'?"

She grinned.

"Nearly done. She okay?"

"She is, thank ya fer askin'. Poor girl pushes herself too hard. Ah keep tellin' her she needs her rest too."

She laughed.

"We never listen."

He snorted "Wimmin folk or ghouls? Either way, yah. Never listen."

She grinned.

"Yes. Exactly."

He threw his hands up in mock frustration.

"Now thar be two of ya in here. Ah ain't gonna win. Eat yer supper woman and we can go back ta' figgerin' whar to store these dead people. Ah ain't got no crawlspace"

She laughed and took a plate, offering a few bites to Loki in the process of finding a spot to sit.

"Could build a mausoleum for them."

"Just where we gonna do that without attractin' attention? Ah be running out of bodies ta haul off without diggin'. It's a band aid fix Miss Alexandria. Gotta protect the whole damn graveyard. Can ya all's clan Harry Potter it with a anti mage ward or sumpin'? "

She shook her head.

"Unfortunately not. Our stuff isn't going to work against a human with kewl powerz."

He shook his head. "Wonderful. This is so far above mah paygrade.... So where in tarnation would ya stick a mausoleum? An' can ya pull a body out o' the ground without the diggin'?"

She smiled at that.

"Yes. I can."
