Graveyard Gossip - Cabin in the Swamp

She smiled.

"That's so very sweet."

"Makes her happy, that makes me happy. She can read, but she ain't never had anyone just hold her and read to her. "

She frowned.

"Maybe I can read to her sometime?"

That made the Malk smile warmly "Ask her. Ah don't think she'd mind in the least. Yer a good person Miss Alexandria. Damn good person."

She smiled.

"Because I want to read to your ghoul?"

"Because ya got kindness, ah can see that. Figger ya ain't gonna read her stories out of malice or hate. "

"Damn, that food smells good, leastways if ya still into that sort o' thang. Ah make a mean sourdough biscuit. Starter is in the fridge if ya want some."

She smiled.

"Sure. I'll give it a try. And thank you. I try to treat others like I want to be treated, cliche as it might sound."

He shrugged. "Yer a ghoul. Means ya been treated like a piece of invisible property with no feelings prob'bly more times then ya can count. So it seems less cliche and more nat'ral tah me. "

She laughed and shook her head.

"I'm treated pretty well. Insofar that they usually leave me alone to do my own thing."

"Good" he smiled "Well ya, welcome to come around here whenever ya want, day or night."

"So, I been taking bodies from the graveyard, runnin' out of room fer 'em, plus well, it gonna get obvious soon. Can ya get some sort o' protective spell around that place? One of yer Tremere buddies or somethin'?"

She frowned.

"Maybe. Depending on what I'm trying to put up a protection against. If it's a mage, then no. There's no such thing as protection against human."

"Then can ya find him? Get a few brujah together, and a couple of Tremere to throw whatever ya 'all throw around to pin down magic users, and we'll just kill the livin' fuck out of it. Boy be fuckin' with the dead, bad 'nuff, but he fuckin' with good southern war dead too, and that ain' right."

She tilted her head and frowned.

"Mages are... special. They're more powerful, magically, than vampires. Which makes them much more tricky."

He scratched his head "Kill 'em harder? And from further away? Ah mean, it's got ta' sleep somewhere. That be what the Good Lord done gave us opposable thumbs fer and all. All the magic in the world ain't gonna stop a determined multi pronged attack what be executed properly an' with sufficient resources..... ahh never mind. We lost in 'Nam with all that shit. Ok, so what kin we do to protect the dead until somebody figger out how to kill it?"

She smiled.

"I'm working on that. I'm not sure yet."

"Ok" he nodded "Got anyone else on the job just yet? Ah don't even know who else in this town kin talk to the dead"

She frowned.

"Not quite yet. The Sheriff knows about it and I'll probably talk to the Seneschal, too."

"Done told him what ah know already, ain't much. Not met the Sheriff yet."

She nodded.

"I'll tell her. She and are friends."

"Thank ya. Here she's a Toreador?"

Her brows rose.

"The Sheriff? Only in political representation. She's a Tremere as well."

"Bit strange in representation eh?" He said oddly surprised

She shrugged.

"Depends, really. If the Toreador views are closer to her own, it makes perfect sense. I'm thinking she did it because of her lover-slash-husband, though."

"This is mah ah hates politics face, an' live out in a swamp with an insane ghoul and a fifty year old helicopter instead."

She laughed.

"It's not so bad, really. Especially if you're like me, a ghoul who can just sit it out and watch."
