She bounced into the house, bright eyes and carrying a bunch of bags.

"Chet! You here?"

He was on the back porch, reading a book on geology, which he carefully sat down when he heard the ghoul.

"Back here love!"

She bounced back and dropped her bags to the ground, where they clanked a little. Then she wrapped her arms around him, kissing him soundly.

"I went shopping!"

He squeezed her close and returned the kiss.

"Oh?" he smiled "Whatcha get?"

She scrambled back to her bags and pulled out a paper wrapped item that was curved and a foot and a half long.

"I got you this."

Grinning he took the package and unwrapped it

Inside was a curved blade on a wooden handle. It was dull, but it was good steel.

"I knew it was there, and I knew it was yours."

He smiled and gave her another kiss

"Thank you Bethy. Lemme find mah stone and put an edge on 'er"

"I also got enough blades to protect myself in the bad city places."

"Yes she will" he said while rummaging around in his tool box for a sharpening stone

Sitting back down he started to work up an edge on the blade "Where did Bethy go shopping?"

He laughed and continued to tickle "What sort of books? Tell me what Bethy is reading now"

She was all wiggly now, laughing hard. In between deep breaths and laughter, she answered.

"Southern...history...voodoon....STOP!"
