"Hopefully then, he's on notice and will behave better"

"That is the hope." with a nod to him and an enigmatic smile.

"Did your rum from England ever arrive?" he said while putting his glass to his lips again.

"Yes it just arrived, thank you again very much." with a warm smile at him.

It was then that a woman entered Sugar's. She looked around, a little uneasy, and then walked up to the bar.

Victor glanced at the woman with the sort of neutral look on his face that indicated surprise and curiosity, but said nothing.

"Hey dear can I help you worried about her being here but it was a slow night.

"Can I get a soda water? Please?" She was pulling out a wad of cash from her pocket. She did seem at all worried about being here.

"Yes can I get you anything else? A cab or call someone for you?" with a nod to her. "And the soda water is on the house." pouring it for her. "You need help?"

Victor glanced at her again and studied her a bit more closely. It seemed odd that a person would look uneasy entering a bar, especially such a quiet one.

"No...? Just... being out and about. I know... weird place." She looked thankful for the drink. "But it was close by and still open."

"It's a slow night here, so kick your feet up and enjoy, I'm Ali - just let me know if you need anything." she meant it trying to think what was nearby the lady could be staying at.

"Not so weird" said Victor with his oddly obsolete and out of place sounding sort of accent

He smiled warmly at the girl "Besides, when you are thirsty, any port in a storm"

"I like that... Any port in a storm. Thank you, kindly," she said.

To Ali, she smiled. "This is might kind of you, thanks."

The dear thing pulled herself up onto a bar stool just to keep near people.

"Been in a lot of ports, in a lot of storms" he said kindly

"I'm Victor, and the kind young lady behind the bar is Ali"

"Sarabeth," she said, nodding as she sipped at her soda water after slipping her money away. "This is the only real port I've been to."

"First storm too I hope" he said while lifting his still full glass to his lips.

"No real storm to date, actually," she said smiling as she looked at him and took a sip from her glass.

"That's good" he smiled warmly. "Good night for a walk"

"Oh yes. And in the fall, too."

"My favorite time of the year. "

"One of mine, too," she smiled warmly to him.

"There is peace in the night I think. And an element of danger"

"Danger?" She didn't seem to have considered that. "Well, I don't seek danger."

"What are you seeking?"
