Looking for her Lady (Griselda)

"I'm not sure. One moment, he was fine and we were walking together and the next, he was angry. It came out of nowhere. He was a drunk, yes, but he had not been drinking that afternoon."

She drew a long breath.

"What were you talking about?"

She shrugged a little, blinking as she thought about it. "Naming the baby. We were discussing the names and talking about hiring a nanny."

She nodded.

"And he got angry for no reason?"

She nodded sadly. "His whole demeanor changed in a flash."

She frowned.

"Were the two of you alone?"

Again she nodded.

She frowned.

"You're sure? There wasn't anyone hiding in the trees or anything?"

"No..." She looked skeptically at Griselda. "Why? Do you think there was? I do not recall any visitors that day."

She smiled.

"I think it's possible. For someone to lose their temper that quickly with no warning is odd."

"Perhaps. Whether it was odd in retrospect makes little difference to me now, however."

She smiled.

"It could make a lot of difference, even to you. Understanding the why behind it means that there might be more we can do."

"But I'm still dead," she gave a bit of a shrug to Griselda. "Always will be dead." She started to wander back off into the direction of the land that once held her home.

She shook her head.

"You don't necessarily have to be."

"I think this is the one time I will allow myself to be... this kind of a freak of nature. If that's alright?"

She nodded.

"It's perfectly all right. I'm glad to meet one of you that truly accepts your situation."

She gave a polite nod of her head. She did accept it, she wished for it to have been better. But she'd had plenty of time to accept it.

She nodded.

"All right. I'm going to go look into this. If I can, anyway."

Again she nodded, sitting in on the ground where she had been before. This was a big adjustment, all things considered.

"Let me know if I can be of assistance."

She nodded.

"I will. And I'll come back to see you again, no matter what."

"I'll be here." Of course she would.

She nodded and, picking up the nearest tiny finger bone (of the baby), she carefully wrapped it in a handkerchief and tucked it away in her bag.

"I'll bring it back. I just need it for a little while."

"Take what you need. He never did need it."

She turned to look at Beryl again.

"Doesn't it mean anything to you? Your child?"

With what could only be described as the most heartbroken, sad frown and eyes she could muster, Beryl looked at Griselda and began to nod her head. "It is why I am here..."
