"You were still on the your family is poopy list. Also, she was easing the pain of my leg nightly. I suppose it was a doctor patient thing gone weird."

Her lips twitched just a little bit and she shook her head.

"I swear, I don't think anyone has ever told that girl that you don't mix business and pleasure. You know, I don't hate her. I really don't. I just think she's dumb."

"Also, I may have been her... what's the word? Rebound?"

She made a very Scottish sound in her throat, which was a sound of disbelief and disapproval.

"That girl...look. You weren't her rebound. You were the guy she decided she would fuck because she was pissed at my cousin. No offense, you were a revenge fuck for her. She would eventually go crying back to Jamie to see if he would take her back. He won't."

"Oh yes, because getting it on with one of my family is a good way to get his attention" he said while rolling his eyes

She nodded and danced just a little closer -- truth be told, the dance floor was starting to get crowded.

"Exactly. I wish I could say that it was about you, but it wasn't. She probably lied to herself and said that it was. But really, she just wanted someone to fuck her so she could piss Jamie off. I never liked her," she admitted, thinking about it. "Never. But it wasn't about her attitude or anything -- that's fine. Deep down, I guess, I could just tell that she was fairly loose and Jamie doesn't deal well with loose women."

"I'm going to go back to brooding over women " he scowled

"What is that rotating ball? Surveillance?"

She grinned again.

"No. It's a disco ball. A multifaceted mirrored ball that is rotated over a dance floor for light effects; also called glitter ball or mirror ball."

"Ah. Thank you walking dictionary"

She grinned.

"I spent several years bored and locked in a room with nothing to do but read."

"Sounds excruciating " he grimaced

She nodded.

"It was. I probably went a little crazy, all things considered. It was a very small room, too. I probably thought about killing myself a few times, even, but I wasn't allowed anything that I might harm myself with. So, instead, I memorized the dictionary."

"You've lead a weird life"

She tilted her head.

"That's not even the weirdest thing I've done."

"True. You are dancing with a blueblood " he teased

"Don't remind me," she laughed.

"Come on, I'm one of the nice ones. Jamie's daughter accused me of being a Knight, that makes me a throwback to when we were decent. "

She shook her head.

"No. That means that you're a victim of her charm, too."

"I found her slightly disturbing. In a sort of I want to buy you candy and then try to forget the nature of the being I am talking to way"

She nodded.

"That's how she gets you."

"Through a Hershey bar, or through the running and screaming?"

She laughed.

"By making you want to buy you a Hershey bar."

"It was a polite thing. since I couldn't exactly take her into a bar and offer her a drink"

Her lips twitched.

"Try ice cream next time."

"I see..."
He frowned as the music changed

"So this was the... best part of the 70's? How?"
