He nodded and took another drink.

"So what do you know that you wish you knew well?"

"Botany."

He raised an eyebrow.

"Not what I would have guessed. Congratulations. You surprised me. Why Botany?"

She smiled at that.

"Plants are incredible things."

He nodded.

"I guess they are."

She smiled.

"Nevermind that it's the carnivorous plants that fascinate me."

Finally she got a chuckle.

"Like the pitcher plants and the fly traps?"

She grinned.

"Exactly. They're wonderful. Little monsters of nature."

He looked at her closely.

"Do you have a thing for monsters?"

She smiled.

"Yes, I do. Doesn't everyone?"

There was something in his eyes as he looked back at her.

"No. Many fear the monsters, hate them, Run from them. Do you consider yourself one of their brood?"

She shook her head.

"No. But I do not deny that there is a darkness within me, within all of us. I would not say that I am a monster, but I am fascinated by them."

He nodded.

"I will give you that. There is darkness in everyone. And fear and pain and Anger. It is mastering those that keep us from being monsters. Or the prey of monsters."

She smiled at that.

"I could never be the prey of a monster."

He looked at her again for a moment, as if measuring her.

"It is surprising what we can and cannot be sometimes."

She stepped a little closer to him.

"Many things I am. Prey, I am not."

He did not step back. He stayed where he was as she came closer.

"Everyone is prey to someone else. There is always someone stronger who wishes to take your place."

She smiled at that. Truly smiled.

"Is that what you think?"

He shrugged.

"In my business, in my life I have seen it. Pick the largest predator in the world, and something else eats it. The strongest, most predatory person has someone who wants to take them down, someone they fear. I keep strong and at the same time make sure others aren't threatened too much by me. Are you telling me there is no one you fear?"

"There is nothing and no one that I fear. Fear is not an emotion I have been given the gift of feeling."

He looked at her for a moment. Which was easy as she was closer now.

"A woman who knows no fear. Amazing.. and possibly dangerous."

"Only as dangerous as you."

"And how dangerous do you think I am?"
