A Night in the Life - Cabin in the Swamp

As the nightlife of the swamp awoke, she was checking the fish traps for her night's dinner.  She'd found a few that were big enough, and they were dead on the decking next to her.

Chet wandered out bare chested and barefooted, and smiled at the ghoul.

"Got your dinner love?"

She looked up at him.

"Yes. It will be tasty. You want yours first?"

By way of response, he wrapped his arms around her waist, gave Bethy a gentle kiss, and buried his fangs into her neck, slowly savoring her flavor

She moaned softly, but was also mostly limp in his arms.

Chet drew his own breakfast out for a goodly while, caressing and petting the ghoul as he fed. Once finished, he healed the wounds and smiled into her eyes. "Thank you Bethy"

She smiled up to him.

"Of course."

She turned to pick up her dinner.

"What do you want to do tonight?"

"Can't exactly drink beer on the front porch" he chuckled while rubbing her shoulders "Dunno. How long you reckon we gonna stay safe down here."

She nuzzled his neck.

"As long as I can keep the traps up."

"Ever want to go back into the world?"

She shook her head, hiding her face in his chest.

"All I need is you. The world is scary."

Chet gently ran his fingers through the ghoul's hair and smiled "It is a scary place. I used to make it scarier. We have each other. I'm just afraid that some night this is all gonna go to hell and we won't get out of it."

She nodded.

"I know. But that day is a long time off. We've been ignored for years. We can stay that way for a long time. And we keep the Huey gassed up."

She looked up at him.

"And I've seen all the others coming. We'll have extra warning."

"What others have you seen pet?"

She nuzzled.

"The lawless ones. Not the ones that will burn us out, but the others. They will come, and we will have to return to the world. And I don't want to, but I can't see a way out of it."

"Sounds like them Anarch fellers.... well they are welcoming of Malks, so that's a plus."

She nodded.

"But it's strangers. Strangers don't understand, and they mistreat you."

"Depends. Some folks respect them what see visions and the like. Others respect a man for how he fights. I reckon I can remind them why they named me brutal if I have to."

She wrapped her arms around his waist and held him close.

"But there will be those who think you mistreat me, and try to take me away."

"Shh... love" he said pulling her close "Ain't nobody gonna take you from me. The laws say you are my property, so they really can't just take you from me."

She nodded, feeling safe in his arms.

"I never want to go back to the dark places. I love you."

"You won't go back there love, you've got me."

She puled enough away to be able to look up at him.

"Thank you. I don't think I say that enough."

That earned her a kiss and a smile "You don't have to Bethy darling. I know it in my heart already."

She moaned softly into his kiss.

"Still need to say it sometimes."
