More Happenings (Greer, Alex, Cassiel) - The Den

He rubbed his chin. "It's Jim. Only one person calls me James, and you sure as hell ain't her. Now, havin' said that, here's tha thing. Don't ya realize that with all this fear an' hate an' doubt that you're talkin' about bein' so detrimental ta Humanity in all its forms, that you're just creatin' more of it by havin' them fear an' hate ya? I mean, think about it, bro. I ain't here for any other reason than ta protect them girls. You're perpetuatin' their fallin' by creatin' the problem. See how it's all circular like that?"

"I have made it absolutely clear to them, Mr. McKay, that I will not harm them. That is not my mandate unless they fall beyond redemption."

He nodded. "An' that's noble, but they don't believe ya. An' I can't say I blame 'em, with tha way you're just showin' up outta nowhere. Didja research either of them girls at all? I'm bettin' they both got some reasons ta have trust issues in they past."

He looked at the Brujah with a puzzled expression, "I do not research people, Mr. McKay. I meet them, generally where it is most advantageous for myself and the individual in question. Specifically so that they may keep their secrets. However, when they accuse my offers of being empty promises or when they believe that they require violence in my presence, these things offend my mandate."

His brow rose. "An' again, ya gotta look at it from our point of view. I mean, ya coulda just knocked on my front door. I woulda answered it. I'm polite like that. But instead, ya just show up in my living room. Now, I could be wrong here, but while ya say ya meet with people where it's most advantageous ta everyone involved so they can keep their privacy ... fact is that you're violatin' that privacy by not followin' tha simple manners of knockin' on tha door. Now, I ain't tryin' ta be rude, an' I ain't seein' no reason for violence here, but if you're wonderin' why people are reactin' to ya with hostility, it may be because of your methods. It might be all okay ta do that wherever you're from, but here, not so much. Make sense?"

Again he looked puzzled, "I've been better received when I let myself in. I was waiting for Miss Harrington in the hall outside her apartment. And I meet them where they may keep their secrets, specifically so that people such as yourself or the mortals capable of magic do not accidentally reveal things they shouldn't."

"Why are you apologizing to me, Greer?"

"Just seems appropriate." nuzzling one of the big dogs, "And Cassie I didn't know it would show here." stated plainly and she is humming softly when not talking.

"So what is it?"

"It's not your fault, Greer. Not at all," softly said, itching to bolt.

He shook his finger in the air as if he had an idea. "See? See there? Now, we'll take Miss Harrington's case there as an example. Ya talked ta her in tha hallway, where she started callin' for me ta come an' help her. Ya likely would have gotten a better result if ya said 'Hi there! You're Miss Harrington, right? My name is ..." He paused and scrached his head. "Well, I don't know ya name. But 'My name is ... can we have some coffee and have a chat?' Now, again, ain't all that upset about ya bein' here, specifically, but ya gotta understand that other people - an' women especially - get all picky about bein' violated an' havin' their personal space violated. An' then you're offerin' 'em ... what? If I remember what Greer said, it was whatever her heart's desire was, or am I wrong?"

"You are not incorrect. However, I am not offering to give her... me. I am offering to help her attain that which she most desires. From her conversation it seems she wishes to be able to comfortably play before others. I can help her find that courage. Sadly... everyone thinks I'm as much of a dick as the majority of Caine's children."

He nodded and held up his hand. "Now, I didn't say that you was a dick. I didn't even imply it. But now, here's tha deal. I been workin' with Greer ta get over her stage fright as well. It'll take some time, but most things worth achievin' do. Now, if ya wanna actually get people ta stop makin' that assumption about ya, ya need ta give 'em time, let 'em work up some trust with ya." He smiled, tilting his head. "Since I'm already takin' care of Miss Harrington's desire, what's it gonna take ta get ya ta let Cassiel alone, too?"

"I don't know what it is Alex. I just reminds me of a creature from my nightmares." hugging the dog in front of her. Looking over at Alex and Cassie, an odd little smile and looks at them.

"Cassiel was ready to run from your domain because she was afraid of stability, of being hurt again. What I ask in return for my assistance is not unreasonable, Mr. McKay, nor is it harmful. In fact it is extremely beneficial to those willing to pay..."

He held up a hand. "And I'm tellin' ya that I'll take care of them girls in there. You just tell me what ya want ta leave 'em alone, so I can go ahead an' get that taken care of for ya."

"You, Mr. McKay... I do not believe you could get what I ask..."

He smiled. "Why don't ya give me a try."

"Faith, Mr. McKay. I require these people to have Faith. I offer my assistance as an agent of Him, and all I ask in return, is that these people have honest to God faith in God, me and Humanity."

He looked thoughtful. "Well, faith in Humanity, I got in spades. Dunno about you, since like I said, you're comin' across more creepy-stalker like. Now, as far as God goes ... that's a whole other issue. But I tell ya what. I'll talk ta them ladies in there and give ya a call in a while ta chat about it, an' in tha meantime, let's say ya leave 'em both alone until they ain't afraid of ya anymore. Sound good?"

This time the gentleman smirked, "I trust you know how to get a hold of me, Mr. McKay..."

He smiled. "I'm bettin' that even if I didn't, you'd find a way ta find me." He touched his fingertips to the brim of his hat. "Have a good evenin."

"I will be waiting, Mr. McKay." The gentleman turned and left as thunder rolled.

He waited a few beats to make sure that the man was gone. Then he stepped back inside, already pulling his phone out of his pocket to send a quick text message. "All right. Alex, stay here with tha girls. Don't let anyone in the house, got it?"

Greer looked up at him from the middle of puppy loving, with a raised eye brow at him and didn't say a word.
