Cass Listened to Good Advice... For Once - Marvin's Haven

Marvin's voicemail made her curious. Probably too curious. It took every fiber in her being to ignore the pull to go to the beach to see what all the fuss was about. What made it worse was the lack of context.

But she didn't want to stay at her place to wait. No, Marvin showing up may not be a good idea. An hour or so after she checked her messages, Cass got dressed and drove to his place.

She didn't even bother getting out of the truck. She was waiting for him to return with the driver's side window down halfway. The stereo wasn't blasting, but it was at a decent volume. Her head was leaned back on the head rest, her arms crossed. She could have easily been napping.

For what it's worth, she was paying attention to very little. Cass was just... waiting.

He got out of his car, waved at Cass and went into his house leaving the door open for her to follow. Once inside, he headed straight to his shower to clean up.

Cass shut off the engine and grabbed the keys, following in behind him a few moments later.

She made herself comfortable, finding the nearest chair to sink into and waited.

Oh how she loved to wait.

He came out a few minutes later, wearing t shirt and shorts. "Well I had a vohzd fall on me, I trust your day has been better? " he was annoyed at something, that much was apparent

"A what?" She looked at him curiously, obviously unfamiliar with the word.

She sat with her legs crossed up under her and her head leaning on her hand.

"Nothing fell on me, so I have no right to complain, I suppose," she answered softly. "So, what the hell did happen? Your message was cryptic. Probably for a good reason, I'm sure."

"Some five story tall thing, crawled out of the ocean near the cemetary and attacked. Whole bunch of brujah were there, the harpy, the sheriff and a lone Malkavian who by the time he swung his borrowed sword was much too slow, as everyone else had already killed the damned thing. So guess who got it on top of them? At least it was stopped though, that's what matters."

"So how did your thing go the other night?"

"Are you hurt?"

She raised an eyebrow... A five story tall thing? WTF?

"The thing the other night," she shook her head wearily. "It went. It was... awkward, uncomfortable. And I am still debating what to do about it. But since I am... um... working with the Scourge now, sorta... kinda..."

She waved her hand as if shrugging it off.

"It is what it is," she replies, hesitant to say much else.

"Nothing that won't heal" he smiled

"Yeah that makes two of us sorta working with the scourge. I guess the pawns have found the person who is moving them for the moment."

"Good," she said with a nod.

"We may be his pawn, but he is someone else's," she said softly.

"I don't think you're going to be able to come by my place for a while. It's why I came here after you called. I... I apparently not alone there."

"Do tell?" he said curiously

"It's hard to explain. They were like... ghosts. 4 of them just appeared. They wanted me to get Mr. Morton and told me I was to help him-- that was my task. To help him with the objects being found. And they said they were staying at my place, basically. Unseen, of course."

Cass shivered. She did not like this, not one bit.

He got up and walked behind her, putting his arms around her. "Want to stay here, until the ghosts leave your place? I even have a spare bedroom."

She shook her head a bit defiantly.

"No, it's... It's fine. I don't do anything half-assed. If I am going to run, I will run away and out of the state. Not just across town. It's something to focus on, I suppose. Don't know what the fuck I'm doing, but-- well, either I will do well or I won't. Either way I don't think Mr. Morton is too thrilled."

She let out an uncomfortable laugh. "That's a new feeling, actually."

"Well, you are the one who enjoys new experiences. What are the ghosts anyway?"

"If I had that answer, I probably wouldn't be sitting here."

"Well, what next then? I pulled a vision off a spoon I found that showed puzzle pieces joining together into a square with a red halo and an all seeing eye. Beats me what it means. "

She gave him a look and leaned forward in the chair.

"Wait, say that again? Yes, these all are puzzle pieces of some sort. Absolutely, they are. But that makes little sense to me. Maybe if I saw it?" She became pensive.

"These are everyday items, for the most part. I mean, minus the blood from the towel from an endangered animal. But they fit together somehow. A red square and an all-seeing eye," she repeated.

Then she chuckled.

"The square. Where does it fit? An All-Seeing Eye is a triangle. It's always depicted in a triangle. It's a common symbol-- thousands of years old. It's been called the Eye of Horus and the Eye of Providence. It makes a little sense, though. The ghosts said they was watching-- it knew things. Perhaps what you saw in that symbol was their presence?"

He shrugged. "Beats me. This place is too weird for my tastes"

"You're thinking of leaving, then?"

"No, I'm actually thinking about ripping your clothes off of you right where you sit and fucking you all night long with your teeth buried in my neck. Facing monsters will make one appreciate the good things in unlife. And Cass, you are one of the good things."

"But if I make you wait, you'll appreciate it more," she grinned that playful grin.

"True."

"It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, though. Put my brain to use. Hopefully that doesn't mean ignoring my body too long," she chuckled softly.

"You don't think any more of those-- what did you call it? Vozhd? You don't think more of those will come sauntering out of the waves, do you? I'd hate to lose a good spot to take pictures. I was almost there this evening, too."

"Beats me. Ask the Sheriff."

She turned her head over her shoulder and seemed to eye him carefully.

"You're really upset about tonight and the creature, aren't you?"
