Phone call - Cabin in the Swamp

Chet took a cheap prepaid phone from his pocket, and dialed Bethy's phone number.

Getting no reply, he called her from his own cellphone.

At the last possible second, the line picked up. But there was no noise on the other end.

"Bethy... come home please?" he said quietly.

There was a choked sob, but still no words.

"Please? I miss you. Whatever you saw, we know about it, we can change it, face it ta'getah."

"Why did you go to him? If ya had gone ta' someone we knew ah would ha' understood better..."

"How long....?"

"Why didn't ya tell me 'afore hand?"

He still sounded hurt

"Conflictin' visions Bethy... one says we be dyin' tagethah, the other be sayin' it not th' case. Which one be real? What be the danger? An' why couldn't ya at least left a note? That hurt most..."

She sobbed loudly.

"I'm so sorry."

"Bethy.. ah need ya. Can ah at least see ya?"

"Yah sleepin' with him too?"

"Well fuck, what am I supposed to be thinkin'.... ?" he said rather abruptly.

Chet continued somewhat meekly. "I gotcha a Christmas present though...."

"Ah don't even have our decorations up..."

"Ah put 'em up tonight... Look, can ya mebbe stay wi' someone else? This Darius feller creeps me out."
