She frowned.

"Why would he have done that?"

"It was the first time I'd met him. I went to introduce myself to him as he was an officer. I had planned to make it short...I really don't like the Tremere in general. The statue startled me and I think I amused him by walking out, then back in, then back out again because he actually appeared and stayed to talk." That part of the story made her smile. "He asked about my interests. I think I surprised him because...he asked how his clan had missed embracing me. It opened up the door for discussions about other supernaturals, demons in particular seeing as how one was after me."

"We talked about the battle that ended in the possible destruction of the Demon in question. He...appeared unfocused, but I knew he was listening. I...knew he was looking. I know that look all too well." She shivered. "When he asked if the blade I had used had any special meaning to me, it was confirmed."

"At least it didn't hurt." She said lamely.

"He saw something that he liked."

"I tore out its heart with my bare hand rather than use the blade."

"Scion removed its head." She made a swinging motion to indicate the great big sword he'd been using.

"He's good like that."

"He is." She said sadly.

She blinked.

"What is it, love?"

"Scion...we...I..." She sighed. "We haven't spoken since I frenzied on him."

She frowned.

"Why did you do that?"

She sighed. "It was right after the thing with Sam. I'm not sure how he found out, but he had me meet with him and demanded I tell him what happened. When I wouldn't he pushed, and pushed, and pushed. He said some things that...angered me. He put it all on my shoulders. It was too much to bear at the time."

"Rai was there, so was Esteban though I didn't know it. I knocked him out, which was all I wanted, but no one had a way of knowing that. Rai got him away from me and Esteban took me home."

She sighed.

"Then you should perhaps avoid him."

"I have been." She said sadly. "He was the first person here who was ever nice to me. He gave me safe place to sleep and...he helped me. I hate that he doesn't trust me anymore. I hate that I disappointed him." There was something more there, if she'd ever shown a spark of a very particular feeling, one might think he'd broken her heart.

"I will never abandon you, love. I promise you that."

"Thank you." The look she gave the other woman was full of adoration.

She smiled and held out her hands to the woman.

"You have nothing to fear with me and Jim. We will always be here for you."

Ren reached out, letting her hands lide into Henri's.

"You have been abandoned a lot, I think."

"Yes. Or sent away, which is the same thing in the end."

She drew the girl into her arms.

"Darling. I'm sorry."

She slipped off her chair and into Henri's arms. The woman really did give wonderful hugs. "I under stand why much of the time. But understanding doesn't make it hurt any less."

She nods, holding the woman like a child.

"It never does."

She let her head rest on the beautiful Brujah's shoulder. "I try to be strong, but I'm not good at being lonely."
