He was English, which meant he could be a gentleman, when he felt like it. This was one of those occasions as he opened the passenger door for her.

"So where is home?"

She seemed a little taken aback by it -- not sure how to react to someone opening the door for her when she was perfectly capable of opening a fucking car door on her own. But after a bout of initial surprise, she just slipped into the car.

"Vancouver."

"I've had my share of the Pacific North West, thanks." He said it with a smile, but there was something telling about the expression.

"It's not like it's American. We're way better than those white trash fuckers."

"No, but it is within a hundred miles of Seattle. And I hate Seattle."

She snorted and shook her head.

"There's nothing worth seeing in Seattle. Even the mountains there suck."

"Seattle's a lot of bad memories and trouble. You'll find that's the general consensus in this town. Too many of us faked out deaths and got the hell out while the getting was good."

"What, was it as barren as my poor old auntie's womb or some shit?"

"The wolves in the area were bigger than most, Angels fell more often. The Asian family members really don't like you in their neighborhood and would come for some very nasty visits, every now and again. Other than that the guy in charge couldn't figure out when he wanted to grow a spine and when he wanted to be diplomatic. Best I could tell he'd flip a bloody coin on the matter. Murder between the family members happened way too often, and then there was the usual problem of dealing with people that had their heads either in the sand or in their asses. It's really not what I'd recommend for a vacation destination, you know?"

"I don't give a damn about the Tinkerbells. But someone cares enough to pay me really well to help handle it."
